Across the nation, millions of people unite with a common mission — to improve the lives of others. This year, in celebration of its 50th Anniversary, and in conjunction with the campus Common Theme, Engaging in Public Life, UW-Green Bay will be joining the Make a Difference Day campaign.
From 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, October 23 students will be giving back to the greater Green Bay community, volunteering at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, working with the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation on trail clean-up, raking, cleaning and light house projects for seniors and disabled residents in the local community. They will be assorting merchandise, stocking shelves, and marking clothing for St. Vincent de Paul and delivering letters for the Neighborhood Volunteer Connection program. The letters explain a neighbors-helping-neighbors volunteer assistance program. Plans are underway for a Make a Difference Day Celebration at the University Union following the volunteer work.
Transportation from Mary Ann Cofrin (MAC) Hall Circle to various service sites will be provided by UWGB. Early registrants receive a free t-shirt while supplies last.
UW-Green Bay students and staff are also encouraged to participate with the Volunteer Center of Brown County on Saturday, October 24. Saturday volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation, but will be recognized as part of the UWGB community of volunteers.
Made popular by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make a Difference Day is an annual event which takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
